P. Sørensen & Co. was founded in 1858 by Peter Sørensen and his brother Henrik Schmidt, for the manufacture of paper, ink and the like. The address was at that time , Store Larsbjørnsstræde 5. After Peter Sørensen died ,  his widow , Anne , continued the company and in 1866  Hans Schmidt bought the property Studiestraede 24 and moved the company as well as his and Annes family to the large property .

In 1872  Casper Frederick Rich , the founder of coffee additive factory Rich's , bought the property and the business , where Henrik Schmidt continued as Vice President. Production was expanded to include stove ink , shoe polish, polish , etc.

In 1874 C. F. Rich's two sons were co-owners of the coffee additive factory while the third son, Peter Thorvald bought the property in Studiestraede and took over the operation of P. Sørensen & Co. . The following year, Peter Thorvald Rich got licens as a grocer and at this time probably came in contact with the grocers Emil Gundestrup and Ferdinand Isaac Heymann .

Rich did not go into match stick manufacturing but he got printed a label by a lithographer and printer Frederick Valdemar Solem , as it must be assumed that he put the labels on the matchboxes , which were  produced at Nørrebro Tændstikfabrik . The labels was very similar labels to the ones of A. Sørensen & Co. and HE Gosch & Co., likely to irritate those who had begun to fabricate ink.

After the fire at
Nørrebro Tændstikfabrik in 1892  F.I. Heymann bought interests into P. Sørensen & Co., where he kept the company name " Nørrebros Tændstikfabrik " , but shortend the purpose only to deal with trade, as Heymann in connection with the sale of the remaining wood and chemicals had signed not to had to deal with matches over the next 4 years.

In 1920 Peter Thorvald Rich died , after which his two sons continued the firm.
